Introduction to GIS (2 day workshop)

This workshop will cover two labs that will introduce basic GIS applications and how they could be used by an educator in a variety of academic fields.  The first lab relates to a web-based GIS curriculum involving an examination of historical human migrations into the United States.  In contrast, the second lab will involve downloading data from the National Weather Service into a desktop GIS program (ArcGIS).  Participants will construct and develop a map demonstrating historical tornado activity across the state of Kentucky.  Both labs will introduce basic GIS concepts associated with scale, classification, queries, symbology, and data entry into a GIS.  The participants will be given access to the software, all content covered in the workshop and additional concepts to continue the learning process which was begun in the workshop.

Instructor:   Mike Rudibaugh

Lunch will be provided.

This workshop will meet in Room 110A of the Business Building.

This workshop will be held on the Southwest Campus of Jefferson Community and Technical College.  The college is located at 1000 Community College Drive, Louisville, KY 40272.
